In a New York minute, the Eagles sang, everything can change. Former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr. has taken this to heart as he contemplates a Democratic primary challenge to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.). The “change” refers to virtually all of Ford’s political positions.
This embarrassing Ford appearance on The Colbert Report lays bare the disingenuous nature of this exercise. Of course, it also illustrates that being disingenuous is nothing new for this political chameleon: Running for Senate in the much more conservative state of Tennessee four years ago, Ford tried to spin an 83 percent pro-NARAL voting record as pro-life.
Things can get pretty strange.
UPDATE: A commenter below correctly points out that “New York Minute” was originally solo Don Henley. But the Eagles did record it in the live album Hell Freezes Over during the reunion tour of the same name.
