The Democrats own this debacle. But the Republicans are, in football terms, like the Washington Redskins. They have an excellent defense and no offense. They have seldom put points on the board since the Reagan years, even more rarely since the early Gingrich years, and not at all since George W. Bush put two conservatives on the Supreme Court.
Eventually, without a strong offense, even the best defense will tire and fail. This is what we saw today. With one exception: Touchdowns can never be repealed. Disastrous pieces of legislation, no matter how difficult it may be, can.
