The Dems Who Cried ‘Wolf!’

The President whom the Left media had been challenging for three years to “act Presidential” did it during his Oval Office address to the nation on Tuesday night, and the Democrats came back ten minutes later, crying “Wolf!” in an American Gothic that even MSNBC’s Brian Williams had to pan.

The boy who cried “Wolf!” We all learned it as kids: If you keep wasting the time of grown-ups by falsifying alarms, one of these days when you have a real alarm to sound, the grown-ups will disregard you. That day has come for Democrats. After two years of sounding the alarum that the President is a Fascist, a Dictator, a Tyrant, a Nazi, Dementia-Ridden, a Traitor, F – – –him, the President is a  M – th – – – u – c – e – (go ahead and buy the letters from Vanna, from De Niro, or from that newly elected trash mouth out of Detroit) the Left has lost its ability to stir emotion outside its own echo chamber. Have a bad name to call Trump? Ho-hum.

I often have written that the “TDS/CNN Rosetta Stone” — the secret tool by which to define all the hieroglyphics of anti-Trump mania and Trump Derangement Syndrome (acronym: TDS/CNN) — is the defamatory charge that Trump is anti-Semitic. From Day One, the Dog Whistlers raced to CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, WaPo, and others of that ilk to bark that Trump is the new Hitler who hates Jews. As it happens, I am Jewish. By coincidence, I also do not like Hitler. Never have. And that is why I found it so insane from Day One when they would call Trump anti-Jewish. The man is the best friend American Jews ever have had in the White House — and the polar opposite of Obama, who actually had visceral hatred toward Israel, toward its elected leader, and whose vengeful last parting spiteful shot was to leave Israel abandoned in the United Nations, refusing to veto a Security Council resolution that ultimately has vanished into history’s dustbin anyway as Obama is doing.

Among the various yarmulkes I wear, I am a Senior Rabbinic Fellow at Coalition of Jewish Values, a national body that speaks for some 1,000 ordained American Orthodox rabbis. I started asking my rabbinic colleagues: “What do you guys make of this ‘Trump is bad for Jews’ stuff?” And all my colleagues — hundreds and hundreds of major prominent ordained and practicing American Orthodox rabbis — agreed with me: We can’t figure out what these Leftists are talking about. First of all, his daughter is an Orthodox Jew, and he is very close with her. His son-in-law is, too, and they obviously are close. Several of his grandchildren are Orthodox Jews. Over time, Trump has recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, moved America’s Israel embassy to Jerusalem, withdrew from the barbaric UN Human Rights Council, withdrew from the insane and deadly Iran Deal, has supported religious freedoms and the rights of the living unborn, commuted the sentence of a Jew who was railroaded by a corrupt anti-Semitic court system in Iowa, had his Education Secretary visit and praise yeshiva private schools, saw his Vice President roll up his sleeves and physically assist in restoring a Jewish cemetery that had been vandalized in St. Louis. And the list goes on.

So that manifest lie about Trump became my Rosetta Stone for the Trump presidency even before he was elected in November 2016. It alerted me early that, for whatever the reason, the Democrats, the academia Left, Hollywood and Broadway, the Corrupt Left Media, and all the others of that cruel and viciously deceitful cabal had settled on a strategy that they would lie baldly and badly about Trump, fabricate the wildest falsehoods and accusations, call him the worst names, use every excuse to compare him to Hitler — even as it would be they who would leverage the Nazi technique of the Big Lie.

For two years, the Left has continued crying “Wolf!” unabated. Even Wolf Blitzer has cried “Wolf!” egging on a guest to compare Trump to Hitler. So they call him a racist. But racists do not associate with Blacks and Latinos. They do not invite them as contestants on their “Apprentice” shows. (In fact, a Black contestant won Season 4.) Can you imagine Hitler inviting Jews? What kind of psychological illness even impacts the mind of someone who places Trump in such a category? Racists do not proclaim that we all bleed the same red, white, and blue blood. Rather, racists want African Americans and Latinos to fail miserably, so they can be mocked and reduced. Hitler — the real one, not the cartoon one that CNN uses as a surrogate term for “conservative Republican” — did not invite Jews to stand around him at press conferences or take pride in helping Jews gain success in the German economy. Rather, his 1935 Nuremberg Laws enacted legislation that drove Jews out of the economy. By contrast, President Trump is ever so proud that Black unemployment has reached all-time lows on his watch, as has Latino and all Hispanic unemployment. Hitler would not visit the equivalent of a Martin Luther King museum. Trump took a chance on the nut-job called “Omarosa” because, on first listen, she actually sounds articulate and sane. By contrast, Hitler would have put her into an oven. Indeed, the whole need even to explain all this is crazy. Alas, today’s high schools and colleges are so busy teaching identity studies and gender fluidity, socialist theory and newspeak words for the New Age (“Zer,” “toxic,” “White privilege,” “intersectionality,” “cultural appropriation,” and “He is a… m – th – – f – – – e -”) that they now graduate a generation who have no idea whom we fought in World War II, what Hitler and Nazism really actually were and are, or even where we fought during the Vietnam War.

For two years the Left has been accusing the President of the craziest things imaginable. They lied and said he removed a bust of the Rev. Dr. King from the White House. A complete lie on Day One.They lied, said, and still say that he collaborated with Putin to get elected, even though it was the Clinton camp who leveraged Russian and Ukrainian assets for personal financial gain and for developing the “Steele Dossier” that was used to hurt Trump during the elections. The President’s opponents accused him of being a fascist and sought to prove their hysteria by saying that only a militarist would surround himself immediately with generals like Michael Flynn, H.R. McMaster, John Kelley, and James Mattis, as when he named his cabinet and staff. (And when they all were gone within two years, the Trump-haters complained about that.) They accused him of being senile, medically demented, inflicted with Alzheimer’s. They wrote that his wife was leaving himor was deathly ill or was hiding. One crazy thing after another. It started before Day One when they called him an “anti-Semite,” and it never has stopped.

Now they are beginning to pay for it big time. When Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer did their thing at that podium after the President’s Oval Office address, they wildly accused him of stoking “fear” and engaging in a “temper tantrum.” Yet, we just had seen the President’s speech to the nation moments before. There was no temper tantrum. We saw it. We heard it. As Abraham Lincoln once said, if you call a dog’s tail a “leg,” the dog still has only four legs because calling its tail a “leg” does not make it so. By overreaching beyond all reason with boundless anathema and invective, their ad hominem insults have lost impact. To get attention, they now need a trash talker out of Detroit to get a rise, like a typical bad stand-up comedian who starts cursing just to get a reaction of embarrassed giggles after he otherwise has lost his audience. They have cried “Wolf!” too often on Trump.

The Left Media like to count his “Pinocchios,” even mockingly announcing before his serious Presidential address to the nation that they would be fact-checking his every word. But this President, although he engages in the puffery of exaggeration common to all salespeople, marketers, and crowd-pleasing kibitzers — serially, “That dress looks marvelouson you!” “This is the best car on the road today!” “… And then this anvil hits me square in the nose…” — is remarkably honest at the coreof his message. That is why he can say at campaign stops: “Promises Made, Promises Kept.” We know where he stands as exactly as we can of any government leader we ever have encountered. Some examples:

No fair-minded Trump supporter ever imagined that he really was going to deport ten million people upon being elected. None of us expected that he was going to force a Mexican President to write a check payable to the USA for $25 billion. None of us expected that he actually was going to lock her up. We always understood him exactly as he meant to be understood: He would do his darnedest to curtail illegal immigration and never would abandon the issue. He would do his darnedest to get a wall built — and none of us cares what kind of barrier it is, whether it is beautiful, whether it is made of steel or aluminum or rabbit droppings. It never would run the entire breadth of the border with Mexico because large segments of that border are demarcated or punctuated already by bodies of water, impossible terrain, and other natural realities that obviate an additional barrier. In time, Mexico effectively will pay but without losing face, whether by receiving $25 billion less in foreign aid over forthcoming years or by acquiescing to changes in trade tariffs or, perhaps, by America taxing cash transfers sent from locations within the United States to recipients in Mexico. As for locking her up, the best we could hope for would be an honest Justice Department investigation into the Clinton Foundation and her corruption, what really happened with those 33,000 yoga and wedding-dress emails that she spoliated when investigators demanded them — and then maybe, but probably never, some judicial authority actually would lock her up. (Hopefully, though, not before the 2020 Presidential election. We need Obama and her to be out on the campaign trail in 2020, working hard and passionately for Democrat candidates as Obama did so masterfully for Stacey Abrams in Georgia a few months ago and for all those other Democrats whom he torpedoed in the 2010 and 2014 mid-term elections by endorsing them.)

Even as the Left counts Trump’s “Pinocchios,” while ignoring Pelosi’s and Schumer’s obvious lies in opposing a wall now that they all avidly supported as perfectly moral and necessary before Trump became President, it is they who have been lying about him 24/7 from the time he launched his Presidential bid. In all his years in public life, he never seriously had been called a hater before. He was a popular guest on all the late-night talk shows, a popular network TV star, popular with Democrats and with Republicans. If he were racist, he was too public too often for too many years for that shame never to have been exposed. So the lies have abounded. Sure, 40 percent of Americans are locked-in hating Trump, and are quite willing to believe the worst about him. But large constituencies of Americans also believe all kinds of other falsehoods. Sixteen million Americans believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows. Twelve million Americans believe Lizard People run our country. Eleven percent believe that HTML is a sexually transmitted disease. Nearly 30 percent believe in Bigfoot. Fifty-six percent of American women believe in ghosts, as do 38 percent of the men. More than half believe in outer-space aliens, and just under 38 percent believe they have visited Earth. So it is to be expected that a solid 40 percent will believe any lie or calumny against Trump.

However, among those in the fair-and-open-minded center, a malaise, exhaustion, and profound skepticism has settled in when Trump is subjected to a knee-jerk damning accusation. It simply has gone on too hyperbolically for too long. Does anyone outside the Hate-Trump universe really care what Jennifer Rubin or Dana Milbank or Eugene Robinson predictably will write, or what Don Lemon or Jim Acosta perfunctorily will say about him? Does Nancy Pelosi influence any deeper than they? According to theEconomist, before his Oval Office address the President had a minus-8 job approval: 45 pro, 53 con. But Congress has a minus-62: 9 percent approve, 71 percent flush the commode. Among Independents, Nancy Pelosi is approved by 31 percent and disapproved by 49 percent; that is a minus-18 rating. Even 19 percent of her own Democrats can’t stand her. Other polls have shown her approval rating overall at 29 percent.

In such an environment, nearly three years of Left media and Democrat non-stop calumniating against President Trump has overreached. It is the daily grind, the same-old same-old. As the President now wages his anticipated first great political battle of these next two insane years, during which he will face an implacable Democrat House that will race after his taxes like lemmings to a cliff and that hopefully will try impeaching him thereafter, realities will dawn on 2020 voters. President Trump never really did launch nuclear war with North Korea. He actually is a stone wall confronting Putin. Air and water pollution actually are being controlled even as the economy has boomed. We ultimately will get a better deal with China, even as we now have one with Mexico. The tax cuts and agency deregulations really launched an economic boom that has caused unemployment to plummet and salaries to rise. We got real judges who came not to rape Michael Avenatti’s clients nor to ban abortion rights in the fifty states but to interpret the law as the Constitution defines it.

Every day the Pelosi-Schumer insult factory will continue heaping invective his way, amplified by the Don Lemons, Chris Cuomos, Anderson Coopers, George Stephanopouli, Chuck Todds, Todd Chucks, and all the other such fungible characters of TV Land. However, those whom they most seek to influence — fair-minded people in the center — long ago have learned to tune them out. They have cried “Wolf!” too often, and they are poised to be out-foxed.
