Sid Caesar, RIP
by

Comedian and television pioneer Sid Caesar passed away today. He was 91.

Caesar became a household name in the 1950s as the host of Your Show of Shows and later Caesar’s Hour. Through these shows and other productions, Caesar launched the careers of Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart, Neil Simon and Woody Allen.

In later years, Caesar appeared in both Grease and Grease II as well as the Mel Brooks’ films Silent Movie and History of the World, Part One.

Here is Caesar and Imogene Coca satirizing vegetarianism decades before it came into fashion in a skit called the “Health Food Restaurant.”
