A Gazette State poll shows the race for U.S. Senate in Montana is still a toss-up. Sen. Jon Tester, the incumbent Democrat, takes 46 percent of the vote to Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg’s 45 percent. This is within the poll’s margin for error, though the breakdown shows Tester winning plurality of independents and doing slightly better among Democrats than Rehberg does among Republicans. Tester, who barely beat scandal-tainted Republican Sen. Conrad Burns in the Democratic landslide year of 2006, is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats in 2012.
