It took until nearly the end of the debate but Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich had it out over their respective Super PAC ads. I think Romney got the better of the exchange when he asked Newt if he could legally contact the Super PAC and Newt acknowledged he couldn’t. Romney then went on to say that Super PACs should disappear so that the candidates themselves would be responsible for what went on the air in their name. For good measure, he also called for the repeal of McCain-Feingold. I have no doubt that Senator McCain, who has endorsed Romney, will be asked what he thinks of Romney’s comment on repealing the legislation that bears his name.
