Republicans Can’t Wave White Flags

Once again, I find myself in disagreement with Ross Kaminsky where it concerns the candidacy of Herman Cain. Ross argues that “Cain’s candidacy is and should be over.”:

However, no matter how much we find Mr. Cain affable, interesting, even slightly compelling, will Republican voters really want to go for a candidate whose campaign you can already see being one of repeated attacks from the left on his character, even if those attacks are manifestly unfair or unsubstantiated?

So Herman Cain should withdraw his candidacy based accusations which are “manifestly unfair or unsubstantiated”?

I don’t think Republicans should be waving white flags every time someone raises a red one. If Herman Cain can be driven from the race based on what amounts to a lie, what is to prevent similar unfounded accusations from being leveled against the eventual Republican nominee?

Let us assume for argument’s sake that Cain withdraws and Romney wins the nomination. What is there to prevent any woman from holding a news conference with Gloria Allred in tow and claiming that Romney forced himself upon her? Absolutely nothing.

Now you might find that a far fetched scenario. But believe me if Romney is the nominee, Obama’s people will find a way to make fire from ice. Their attacks on Romney would make Rick Perry’s attacks on Romney look milquetoast by comparison. Lest we forget that back in August a top Democratic strategist close to Obama said, “Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney.”

Politics is a blood sport and President Obama plays for keeps. President Obama has nothing to show for nearly three years in office. All Obama can do is kill Romney or kill whoever else ends up as the Republican nominee. As long as those circumstances prevail, Republicans can’t expect the waving of a white flag will stop Obama and company from shooting.
