Wow! I didn’t think the Philadelphia Philies could get better but they have.
Yesterday, the Phils obtained outfielder Hunter Pence from the Houston Astros for three prospects and a player to be named later.
The Phillies already have a lineup that includes the likes of Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Shane Victorino.
Despite the fact the Phillies have the best record in MLB they have missed the bat of Jayson Werth in right field and rookie Domonic Brown hasn’t quite adjusted to big league pitching. Pence fills that gap in the lineup quite nicely.
This is the second consecutive year the Phillies have acquired a top notch player from the Astros in mid-season. In 2010, the Phillies acquired pitcher Roy Oswalt (who is presently on the DL with a back injury.)
The Phillies have it all – offense, defense, pitching. It would come as no surprise to me if they were to win their third NL pennant in four years.
