Here’s yet another reason I am hesitant to say that Libya has entered the post-Gadhaffi era.
On Sunday, Libyan rebels had claimed they had arrested three of Gadhaffi’s sons, Muhammad, Saif al-Islam and Saadi. But last night, Saif al-Islam appeared outside of a hotel in Zawiyah and was greeted by pro-Gadhaffi supporters. While it is true that Gadhaffi’s eldest son Muhammad had been captured by rebels he then escaped, apparently assisted by one of his rebel captors. So who is to say that the rebels have Saadi in captivity? Of course, nobody knows where Muammar Gadhaffi is.
Suffice it to say, it’s a very fluid, volatile situation over there and thus it is far too soon to state conclusively that the Gadhaffi era has come to an end.
