Obama’s Recycled Promises
by

I have watched President Obama’s new TV ad which calls for “A New Economic Patriotism”.

In reality, it is pretty much recycled from the 2008 campaign.

Consider the four elements of his plan:

1. Create a Million New Manufacturing Jobs; Double Exports; Tax Breaks to Invest in America

Well, President Obama is downsizing his job creation aspirations.

In a speech at Widener University in Pennsylvania one week before the 2008 election, Obama said, “We’ll create two million jobs by rebuilding our crumbling roads, and bridges, and schools, and by laying broadband lines to reach every part of the country.”

Well, as we all know, it turns out those jobs weren’t shovel ready as he thought.

So how can Obama possibly promise to create a million new manufacturing jobs when our current economic growth rate is 1.3%? A rate mind you that was revised downward from 1.7%.

With regard to tax breaks for American companies, during his 2008 DNC acceptance speech, Obama said, “I will stop giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas and I will start giving them to companies that create jobs right here in America.”

This from the President who gave $529 million to have fuel efficient cars manufactured in Finland

2. Cut Oil Imports in Half; Produce More American Made Energy

Again from the ’08 DNC Speech. “As president, I will tap our natural gas resources, invest in clean coal technology, find ways to safely harness nuclear power.”

Obama went on to say, “I’ll invest $150 billion over the next decade in affordable renewable sources of energy – wind power, and solar, and the next generation of biofuels – an investment that will lead to new industries and 5 million new jobs that pay well and can’t be outsourced.”

This from the President who invested $535 million in Solyndra to manufacture expensive solar panels no one wanted to buy.

Why should we trust President Obama with a penny more of our money?

3. 100,000 Math & Science Teachers; Train 2 Million Workers With Job Skills; Expand Student Aid

Concerning teachers, in the ’08 DNC speech Obama said, “I’ll recruit an army of new teachers, and pay them higher salaries and give them more support.”

I guess he’s gone from promising an army to promising a division.

4. Reduce Deficit by $4 Trillion; Wealthy Pay a Little More; End War in Afghanistan & Rebuild America

This from the guy who promised to cut the deficit in half by end of his first term and instead presided over a $5 trillion increase in the deficit and counting. Let’s not forget to mention two credit downgrades.

Would you by a used a car from Barack Obama? Well, I wouldn’t buy a glass of lemonade from him nevermind a lemon.

As for rebuilding America, I thought the stimulus was supposed to do that.

Conclusion

Obama made one prescient statement during the ’08 DNC speech:

If you don’t have a record to run on then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make the election about small things.

Those two sentences sums up the Obama 2012 campaign. what with canards about voter suppression, Mitt Romney’s tax returns and blaming him for the death of the wife of a man who used to work for him.

Barack Obama cannot run on what he has done over the past four years. So all he can do is paint Romney “as someone pople should run from” and make promises in the hope people won’t remember he already made these promises four years ago.

If President Obama couldn’t deliver on his promises four years ago then why should we believe he will deliver now?

The only question is what Mitt Romney going to do about it on Wednesday night.
