Obama: “ISIL Speaks for No Religion.”
by

President Obama made a statement in Martha’s Vineyard earlier this afternoon condemning the death of photojournalist James Wright Foley who was beheaded yesterday by ISIL.

After Obama paid tribute to Foley, he made the following statement:

So ISIL speaks for no religion. Their victims are overwhelmingly Muslim, and no faith teaches people to massacre innocents. No just God would stand for what they did yesterday, and for what they do every single day. ISIL has no ideology of any value to human beings. Their ideology is bankrupt. They may claim out of expediency that they are at war with the United States or the West, but the fact is they terrorize their neighbors and offer them nothing but an endless slavery to their empty vision, and the collapse of any definition of civilized behavior.

Just because most of ISIL/ISIS victims are Muslim doesn’t mean they don’t speak for a religion. ISIL stands for the Islamic State of Iraq & the Levant while ISIS stands for the Islamic State of Iraq & Syria. The aims and objectives of ISIS/ISIL are clear – establish an Islamic caliphate in the Middle East and eventually a global caliphate. That global caliphate includes The White House. This means purifying Islam. Those Muslims who are deemed insufficiently Muslim will be killed. As for non-Muslims, they have three choices: convert to Islam, pay a jizya and endure dhimmitude status or death. ISIS is actively recruiting young men to bring about this global caliphate. As I noted earlier today, more young Britons signed up for ISIS than with the British Army Reserve last year.

“One thing we can all agree on is that a group like ISIL has no place in the 21st century,” said President Obama. Well, ISIL/ISIS’ methods might be out of the 7th Century, but their recruitment methods is very much of the 21st century.

Naturally, this reminds me of when Obama said of Vladimir Putin last March when he emassed Russian troops on the Ukrainian border, “(T)his is not how international law and international norms are observed in the 21st century.”

But when the most powerful country on earth abdicates its role as the most powerful country on earth then Russia’s actions in Crimea and Ukraine are exactly how international law and international norms are observed. And when the most powerful country on earth abdicates its role as the most powerful country on earth then ISIL/ISIS very much has a place in the 21st century and it could be very big one at that.

While Obama was clear in condemning ISIL/ISIS’ actions, he was not clear if the U.S. would continue airstrikes in Iraq to protect the Yazidis from genocide.
