I just watched President Obama’s address before a joint session of Congress.
I’ll say this much for Obama. He was full of piss and vinegar.
But that said he can say “pass this jobs bill” or “pass it right away” to his heart’s content but the devil is in the details. We cannot have another Obamacare where Congress has to pass the bill before we know what’s in it. How is the federal government going to be in any better position to create jobs in the manufacturing jobs now than it did when it gave Solyndra $585 million to create so-called “green jobs” two years ago at a cost of about $1 million a job?
President Obama was also trying to have his cake and eat it. He gave the appearance of embracing ideas endorsed by Republicans at one moment (i.e. payroll tax cuts) and then hatcheted up the class warfare rhetoric seconds later (i.e. tax breaks for millionaires/billionaires or putting teachers back to work.)
So it’s probably just as well that there’s no official Republican response. But if the GOP is going to oppose Obama’s job bill they had better put forth a viable alternative to it especially in the event Obama should manage to gain traction from it.
