The Miami Marlins have named Mike Redmond as their new manager, signing him to a three-year contract. Redmond succeeds Ozzie Guillen who last only one season in South Beach. He becomes their fifth manager since 2010.
Redmond, 41, played 13 seasons in the bigs as a backup catcher with the Marlins, Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Indians. In 2003, Redmond earned a World Series ring with the Marlins. He spent the past two seasons managing in the Toronto Blue Jays minor league system in Lansing and Dunedin.
I don’t know how Redmond is going to do with the Marlins. But I think it is a safe bet that we will not see him sing the praises of Fidel Castro.
UPDATE: However, if the Marlins are in a prolonged losing streak next season, naked batting practice might not be out of the question. I suppose he will have to flesh those things out.
