Last night, former MLB superstar Manny Ramirez was arrested on domestic battery charges after allegedly slapping his wife across the face during an argument in their Florida home.
While Ramirez is innocent until proven guilty, I cannot say this development surprises me considering how he assaulted an elderly Boston Red Sox employee shortly before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008.
Ramirez signed with the Tampa Bay Rays in the off-season but abruptly retired in mid-April when he had failed a second drug test for performance enhancing drugs which would have landed him a 100-game suspension.
UPDATE: A judge has now barred Ramirez from contacting his wife. It’s not clear at this point if she will take out an order of protection against him.
