Writing a guest editorial in The New York Daily News, sportswriter Glenn Stout argues that Derek Jeter is the New York Yankees’ Barack Obama:
It’s not surprising, then, that Jeter’s stardom mirrors that of President Obama. Both are forward-looking men who play down race, preferring to not restage the battles of the past. As such, they represent America’s future, not its past.
Well said. Barack Obama always plays down race and resists all efforts to restage the battles of the past. Obama would never accuse his opponents of telling voters ‘he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.” He would never insinuate that race was a factor in the arrest of his friend in Cambridge, Massachusetts nor would he suggest that law enforcement officials in Arizona would wantonly arrest Latinos for eating ice cream.
While President Obama and Derek Jeter have similar racial backgrounds, the similarities end there.
