On Wednesday evening, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continued to take a hawkish tone in her speech while distancing herself from the Obama Administration. A fortnight ago, she invoked Hitler’s actions in Czechoslovakia in 1938 when commenting on Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula.
This time
the subject matter was Iran which she spoke about in New York before the American Jewish Congress which bestowed a Lifetime Achievement Award upon her (God knows why). New York’s former junior Senator said she is “personally skeptical” that Iran’s leaders will live up to their end of the interim nuclear agreement with the Obama Administration. It should be noted that she hedged her bets and stood behind the Obama Administration’s pursuit of diplomacy in Iran and singled out current Secretary of State John Kerry for praise.
While Hillary is praising the Obama Administration’s efforts in Iran, her “personally skeptical” comment gives her enough distance from the White House so that when this agreement falls apart she can say, “I knew it wouldn’t work all along.” Hillary went on to say that if negotiations with Iran do fail that “every other option does remain on the table.”
Personally, I don’t buy Hillary’s tough talk on Russia or Iran. Like many other politicians, she’ll say anything to get elected. But since she’s not running against Obama this time around don’t expect the MSM to vigorously challenge the inconsistencies in her statements between her time in the Obama Administration and her time distancing herself from it.
