Baseball Hall of Famer Gary Carter has several malignant brain tumors which have been deemed inoperable. Carter is expected to undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
Although perhaps best remembered as a member of the 1986 World Series Champion New York Mets, Carter spent the bulk of his 19-year big league career with the Montreal Expos where he supplanted Johnny Bench as the premier catcher in the National League. During his career, Carter was part of eleven NL All-Star Teams, won three Gold Gloves and five Silver Sluggers. He was inducted into Cooperstown in 2003.
Carter was one of the most intense competitors I’ve ever seen play on a baseball field. We can only hope he will tag out cancer at home plate.
Here’s a 7 Up commercial he did with his daughter while he was still an Expo in the early 1980’s. This takes me back. Get well Gary.
