The 34-year old right-hander becomes the first Dodgers hurler to toss a no-hitter since Hideo Nomo did it against the Colorado Rockies in Denver on a rainy night in September 1996.
Although 2013 was a glorious season for the Dodgers, it was not for Beckett
. Limited to eight starts due injuries, Beckett went 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA. The no-hitter improves Beckett to 3-1 with a 2.43 in 2014.
There are two things I find interesting here. The first is that Beckett was pitching against his old Florida Marlins teammate A.J. Burnett who tossed a no-hitter for the Marlins despite walking nine batters. The second thing I find interesting is that this is only Beckett’s seventh win in a Dodger uniform since the blockbuster trade that brought him, Carl Crawford, and Adrian Gonzalez from the Red Sox during the 2012 trade deadline. But as my Dad’s notes, “Beckett is back.”
