Women United…Sort Of!

By now everyone’s heard about the “Woman’s March on Washington” scheduled for the day after the inauguration. The event, which evolved from a single Facebook post, has grown to be the largest of the planned protests and has now morphed into a broader “social justice” demonstration against the incoming Trump administration and Republican congress.

How sad that schisms have been reported within the movement! The New York Times reported yesterday in an article titled “Women’s March Opens A Raw Dialog on Race” that black feminists have instructed their “white allies” to “listen more and talk less” and have delivered a few lectures on “white privilege.” Sounds like these Anglo-Saxon social justice warriors are being schooled in the “Hierarchy of Victimhood” by oppressed women “of color” who were — to (laughingly) quote the article — “born scared.”

But what could be more disappointing than being painted as an oppressor when you had your heart set on basking in your own victimhood status for the cameras on the National Mall? Imagine what it must be like for these white women, angry that school teachers make a tiny fraction of the salary of the CEO of Exxon, and tired of having things “mansplained” to them, to now be told to resume their traditional subservient role of quiet acceptance on what was supposed to be their day in the sun.

Breaks your heart.
