It’s dark now and for Los Angeles, it’s damned cold. I feel a chill. Is it COVID? Let us pray.

Here’s a prayer for right now:

Dear Lord,

Thank you for allowing me to be born in the United States of America, in Washington, D.C., to be exact. Thank you for letting me be born as WWII was ending so that I never had to fight in that horrible and noble war. Thank you for allowing me to have well educated, thoughtful, extremely patriotic parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.

Thank you for allowing me to go to fine public schools where there was almost no violence and where we had fine teachers and brilliant fellow students.

Especially, thank you for letting me go to a great public high school, Montgomery Blair, named for Abraham Lincoln’s Postmaster General. Thank you for allowing me to go to school as the schools were integrated by race, and yet there was no racial violence at all. Thank you for allowing me to go to a super great college, Columbia in New York, and the best law school in the world, Yale Law School.

Thank you for allowing me to meet my wife, the finest human being on earth, on July 4, 1966. We were married two years later and have been together ever since with a short break. She is a saint of kindness, intelligence, superhuman beauty, and forgiveness. There is literally no finer being on this planet than my wife.

I will write more tomorrow. For right now, let me bow down with gratitude for the best life a child could have. I live by gratitude.
