It has been a long day of travel after several lovely days in Greenville. The best part of Greenville was — as usual — the Spoonbread Room of the Poinsett Hotel. It is good and it’s served in a beautiful room with sunlight streaming in the windows. Every dish is heavenly. Alex, Kitty, Coco, Bob Noah and I ate there yesterday. I enjoyed every minute. Every morsel.

Then Bob and I walked the streets of Greenville just taking in the intensely lush friendliness of the passers by.

Then, off to a swim meet which I found by accident. The swimmers were top notch and the setting was space age with sophisticated electronic timing systems. But it was a bit damp in there so we left. More power to those strong, dedicated young swimmers, though.

WAIT!!! I made a mistake. The high point of the trip was Valentine’s Day dinner at the Poinsett Club. So many good-looking couples. Such great crab soup. So many well-dressed women. Everyone courtly and friendly. This is a little foretaste of paradise.

Especially being with big wifey who looked so elegant and glamorous. She and Julie the dog are what I have always wanted.

I like Kansas just fine but I am deeply attached to the town where everyone I meet says, “We’re glad you’re here.”

My wife stayed behind with our granddaughter, son, and daughter-in-law. I’ll enclose a photo.

The flight in from GSP to Topeka was extremely easy, although as usual the Atlanta airport was a furnace. And the people here are super-friendly. But I am tortured by fear of the Obama administration. Apparently Mr. Obama and his Attorney General, Mr. Eric Holder, believe that the reason so many black people are in prison is “racism.” Mr Holder is quoted as saying that the next major struggle for civil rights is within the criminal justice system.

Put simply, that means that if black people are put in prison, likely there is a “racist” reason. (I know I just said it above.) But there is no evidence at all that such is true, i.e., that otherwise innocent black people are sent to prison because they are black. If there is such evidence, it is not generally known.

There is a disproportionate share of the prison and jail population that is black. Yes. But courts say that’s because they commit a disproportionate share of crimes. So… where’s the “racism”? And if there is racism involved, let’s root it out. But let’s not just assume that racism is involved. And anyway, what’s the solution? Not imprisoning nonwhites who commit crimes?

I just don’t get where Mr. Holder is coming from on this one. But it scares me a lot to think that from now on, “racism” will be the standard defense in many criminal cases on the inspiration of Mr. Holder and Mr. Obama. They have already encouraged marijuana use. Isn’t that enough for now?

Let’s have equality before the law, not stirring up rage and resentment about a fact that is not in evidence.

But it gets worse. Mr. John Kerry, Secretary of State, has now appointed himself a scientist and leading expert on “climate change.” They cannot call it global warming now because it’s been so cold this winter, so it’s “climate change.” And he says it’s “the worst weapon of mass destruction” of all time. And it’s man made and only charlatans question it.

Really? Is burning coal worse than burning Jews? Is the internal combustion engine as deadly as the atom bomb? Is burning natural gas as bad as the machine gun at Ypres?

And are there not thousands of scientists who question (1) Whether there is major climate change, (2) Whether it is man made? (3) How much of an effect on “climate change” would be realized even by slamming the U.S. economy to the ground?

But somehow, the Secretary of State is now the supreme mullah of climate change and his word is final. HOW TERRIFYING THAT HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN PRESIDENT!!!!

And meanwhile, where do these Democrats get the chutzpah to make up fake scientific credentials? Like, just for instance, isn’t it interesting that Al Gore, with no scientific training at all, invented the Internet? AND HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN PRESIDENT, TOO!!!! And now Mr. Kerry, with no meteorological education at all, is the highest authority on “climate change”?

And what’s the bottom line? It is all about taking away our freedom at the local level, making all decisions in D.C., ending our lives as free people. I hate racism. It’s evil. But all of what the Obama people are doing is just a song and dance routine to take away our freedom. Use saving mankind from “racism” as an excuse. Check. Use saving the earth. Check. Use anything. But at the end of the day, we will not be a free people in charge of our own destiny. Checkmate.
