Russia Doubles Down on Invasion
by

Russia reportedly plans to launch a second-wave invasion of Ukraine in the next two weeks on a grander scale than the first. “Russia is believed to be massing 1,800 tanks, 3,950 armoured vehicles, 400 fighter jets and 300 helicopters for the attack,” the Sun claims.

Russia, according to the story, plans to augment the 300,000 or so troops already in Ukraine with 200,000 more. Does not this mean resolution?

One scenario sees this blitz as too overwhelming for the Ukrainians to repel. A second possibility involves a poorly equipped, poorly trained, and perhaps most importantly difficult-to-supply band of ragtag Russians marching obliviously into a human meat grinder. Either way, an escalation of this sort makes one side or the other suing for peace, without acknowledging that they do so, a greater likelihood than at any point during this longest of one-year wars.
