Which GOP Senator Will Be a Profile in Courage?

So who will it be? Or will there be anyone with the courage at all?

Here is the basic — constitutional — reality when Congress has a joint meeting on January 6 to decide whether to accept the votes of the Electoral College. It is described in the Epoch Times this way:

Objections during the joint session require at least one House member and senator. If a member from each chamber challenges a state’s votes, each chamber withdraws and debates the objection. Upholding it requires a majority vote, something considered unlikely because of the number of Republican senators who have said they won’t back the effort.

Stepping up in the House is Alabama Republican Congressman Mo Brooks. He is determined to be the required lone House vote to reject the results of the Electoral College. Here’s the headline from the Washington Examiner:

Rep. Mo Brooks vows ‘I will not surrender’ election fraud fight

The story reports this:

The leader of a House bid to challenge the Electoral College election of Joe Biden said that he is “cautiously optimistic” of winning the needed support in the Senate to fight on despite Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s urging to have President Trump step aside.

Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks said he expects the support of at least one senator when he moves next month to challenge the Electoral Votes of several states in which the Trump campaign has claimed election fraud. Without a Senate ally, the effort fails.

“I’m cautiously optimistic that there will be one or more United States senators who will fight to reject voter fraud and election theft,” he said in an interview….

While the process is a bit unclear, in the end the House votes to either accept the Electoral College election of a president or the House votes. The Senate does the same for vice president.

“I have a choice. I can either fight for my country and an honest and accurate election system that underpins our republic or I can surrender. I will not surrender on an issue of this magnitude. Voter fraud and election theft must be stopped. And on January 6, Congress faces a choice. We can either vote to reject voter fraud and election theft or by our silence, or vote, ratify voter fraud and election theft. I choose to fight,” Brooks told Secrets.

Thanks to Brooks, there are at least two senators who may indeed step up. Here’s one headline from Newsmax:

Tommy Tuberville Floated as Ally for Rep. Brooks’ Electoral College Challenge

The story begins:

Alabama GOP Rep. Mo Brooks’ aim to challenge Electoral College votes could get a needed Senate ally in Tommy Tuberville, AL.com reported Thursday.

Tuberville will be sworn in as the new Senator from Alabama on Jan. 3; Congress meets three days later to ratify the Electoral College’s decision that awarded the presidency to Joe Biden.

Another senator considering to team as Brooks’ Senate partner is Kentucky’s Rand Paul.

So what is the hitch?

This, per the Wall Street Journal:

GOP Senate Leaders Warn Against Long Shot Election Challenge

Some Republican lawmakers hope to contest electoral results at Jan. 6 joint session of Congress

Reports the Journal:

WASHINGTON—Senate Republican leaders united Tuesday in calling Democrat Joe Biden the winner of the presidential race, while warning colleagues not to join a long shot bid to challenge the results when Congress certifies electoral votes in January.

“Our system of government has processes to determine who will be sworn in on Jan. 20. The Electoral College has spoken,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.). “So today, I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden.”

To which President Trump tweeted in reply:

Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot). Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!

The president is right. Seriously right. What in the world is Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell thinking?

In Pennsylvania alone, former Independent Counsel Ken Starr testified to Sen. Ron Johnson’s Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee investigating the election. Said Starr:

The principle here is … [the] Constitution is very clear that it is the prerogative of state legislatures to determine what these rules and laws are. And that was, I must say, flagrantly violated in Pennsylvania, and perhaps elsewhere as well.

Instead of folding like a cheap suit, GOP senators should be standing up to fight for the integrity of the American election process.

A hard fact here is this is typical of the GOP establishment. They refuse to stand and fight, terrified of the liberal media and rejection by the Washington elites.

Nothing could be more vital to America than the integrity of its election system. It is being threatened by a power-crazed Democrat Party and its allies in the media and Big Tech.

If a Republican senator fails to stand up for that integrity, there may never be a free, fair, and honest presidential election again.

Thus the question, again.

Who will it be? Or will there be anyone in the Senate Republican Caucus — anyone at all — with the courage to stand up and fight the results of the 2020 election?
