With the possible exception of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas, no Supreme Court nominee has suffered the kind of abuse heaped on Brett Kavanaugh during his 2018 confirmation.

Senate Democrats, aided and abetted by major media outlets, tried to destroy Kavanaugh after a looney, lying, leftist professor accused him of assaulting her at a party in the 1980s.

Christine Blasey Ford couldn’t pinpoint the year or location of the party — an event that her then-best friend and others, who she insists were present that night, say never even happened.

Democrats, of course, paraded ever-more outlandish claims — up to and including that Kavanaugh was a gang rapist.

And no, the leftist activist in robes who will be replacing the retiring Stephen Breyer was not given similar treatment — not even close.

The effort by some Republicans to disqualify Ketanji Brown Jackson over her habit of sentencing child porn offenders to prison terms lower than what federal guidelines call for was ham-handed and largely ineffective, given that other federal judges tend to depart downwards for non-production offenders.

That said, to be the equivalent of the Democratic jihad against Kavanaugh, the GOP would have had to claim that Jackson herself is a child sex offender.

Like his fellow leftists, Nicholas John Roske was hell-bent on destroying Kavanaugh, albeit in a more literal sense — as in assassination.

As the Wall Street Journal has reported, Roske, a 26-year-old from California (go figure), traveled to Chevy Chase, Maryland, with the express purpose of killing Kavanaugh.

After his arrest, Roske told police he was angry over the leaked majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Woman’s Health, which would overturn the constitutional (and moral) abomination that is Roe v. Wade.

In keeping with progressive theology, Roske also objected to Kavanaugh’s commitment to upholding a real constitutional right, one reflected in both the text and history of the Founder’s Constitution, namely, the right to keep and bear arms. Check the box for motive.

Ditto means. Police recovered from Roske a tactical knife, Glock pistol, two magazines, ammo, pepper spray, zip ties, and duct tape, along with a hammer, screwdriver, nail punch, and crowbar.

His opportunity to kill Kavanaugh, whose wife and daughters would obviously have been at grave risk, was evidently stymied.

Roske emerged from a taxicab at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday morning in front of Kavanaugh’s house. After noticing the two deputy U.S. marshals who were at the justice’s house because violent progressives have been making death threats towards him and the court’s other conservatives since the leak, Roske walked down the street before calling 911 to report his murder-suicide plan.

If nothing else, the incident highlights that politically motivated violence is something that can come from both sides.

Indeed, most politically related violence and disturbances in the U.S. over the past several years have stemmed from the Left, not the Right.

The January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol was a dark day for America, and Donald Trump’s shameful actions in stoking anger by falsely claiming that he was the actual winner of the 2020 election will forever stain his legacy, but at the end of the day, the non-insurrection was a one-day one-off.

During the nightly “largely peaceful” protests turned riots during the summer of 2020, by contrast, literally thousands of stores were ransacked and set on fire.

Black Lives Matter activists and others possessed by anti-law enforcement hatred chanted for the killing of police — as they have since laying waste to Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014, and burning swaths of Baltimore, Maryland, to the ground in 2015.

Democratic double standards regarding political violence seem almost too obvious to mention. Still, while the White House has strongly condemned Roske’s actions, its silence toward the overheated rhetoric against the Supreme Court from the Left has been deafening.

Then again, this administration has fueled that anger, and has even condoned the protests happening outside the justices’ homes — which are illegal under federal law.

Had Roske succeeded, he would not just have murdered a decent, patriotic, and virtuous man who is a loving husband and father. He could also have triggered a Krakatoa-like eruption of America’s building political tensions, resulting in large-scale, widespread street fighting and disorder.

That’s speculation, of course. Let’s hope it stays that way.
