Unlike the mainstream, most Americans are more concerned with the Black Lives Matter riots from last summer than the riot that occurred on January 6. A recent national telephone and online survey by the National Police Association and Rasmussen Reports published on Wednesday revealed that a majority of Americans support an investigation into the Black Lives Matter protests that occurred last summer, while less support a probe into January 6.
Sixty-six percent of the 996 likely voters surveyed said they want the BLM riots investigated, while just 49 percent indicated support for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s investigation into January 6.
Support for an investigation into the Black Lives Matter protests cut across racial groups: 67 percent of whites, 64 percent of blacks, 66 percent of Hispanics, and 62 percent of other minorities said they believe Congress should look into the riots that ravaged U.S. cities.
The survey also reported that 65 percent disagree with BLM activists who claim that the U.S. flag and the pro-police “Thin Blue Line” flags are racist.
According to a study of 68 cities by the Major Cities Chief Association, at least 574 protests in the summer of 2020 spiraled into violence, including assault, looting, and arson. Over 2,000 police officers were injured during the end of last May through the end of last July alone after the death of George Floyd spurred a nationwide movement. The riots resulted in the decimation of countless small businesses and over $1 billion in damage across 20 states.
The storming of the nation’s Capitol at the beginning of the year resulted in more than 150 officer injuries and roughly $30 million in damages to the Capitol building and its surrounding vicinity. More than 535 defendants were arrested, and 18 have pleaded guilty.
The Rasmussen report starkly contrasts with the mainstream media and leftist elites’ obsession with January 6, evidenced by Pelosi’s formation of a select committee to investigate the event.
Though January 6 transpired almost seven months ago, the leftist elites’ fixation on the subject is insatiable. The FBI continues to receive countless tips from leftist internet sleuths on potential Capitol attackers, and a group of journalists said they still suffer “emotional scars” from reporting that day. A representative’s blue suit worn during the “insurrection” has even been made a historical relic by the Smithsonian.
