The OECD Report issued today is a shocker, which is why you probably won’t hear much about it. What it evidences is not just American decline, but a decline where we can point our fingers at some villains.

One of them is the K-12 educational bureaucracy. America scores at the average in numeracy for the 55-65 year old cohort, but at the very bottom for the 16-24 year olds. What that means is that while every other First World country surveyed has closed the talent gap, we’ve lagged behind them all. Our system of public education is dreadful, the worst around. We all knew that. Now, here’s proof.

Another villain is our immigraiton system, and those who defend it. The report notes that foreign language immigrants (which includes just about all immigrants to the U.S.) are significantly less literate and numerate than native-born adults. This doesn’t get better with time, either, and the report recommends that the U.S. do a better job making sure they speak English. As if that’s going to happen anytime soon.

In sum, this is terrible news for anyone who loves the U.S. But come hither, you Democrats. Read the report and hug yourself with delight. You’re getting precisely the kind of voter you want.
