By a vote of 68-32, the US Senate passed the “Gang of Eight” immigration reform bill, as modified with the “Gang of Two” amendment which purports to create a “border surge” and thus gain conservative support by promising a bigger and more expensive government. The bill now moves to the House, where many things can happen, though agreement with something very like the Senate bill remains unlikely.
On Sean Hannity’s Fox News television show yesterday, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) said the House would take up its own legislation rather than the Gang of Eight bill.
