Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why am I running into a paywall?

Like most other online publications, The American Spectator allows visitors a limited number of free articles per month. If you are seeing a paywall, you have hit our monthly limit; to continue reading, please register here.

Q: I subscribed to The American Spectator but I am unable to log in.

1. First make sure that you have successfully subscribed by checking your inbox for a confirmation email from us. If you have no such email, please try subscribing again here.

2. If you have a confirmation email, make sure you are inputting the correct email address in our login screen.

3. Make sure you have entered the correct password for your account. This is the most common reason subscribers are unable to log on. If you are unsure about your password, click the “Forgot your password?”  button (located under the password form). Then enter your account email address and click “Reset Password.” Finally, check your inbox for an email from The American Spectator that will contain a password reset link.

If you do not see the password reset email in your inbox, please check your spam folder.

If you are still having issues, feel free to contact us.

Q: I am a subscriber and I successfully logged in, but I am still unable to read articles.

Usually this means that your subscription was cancelled due to either a problem with your payment method or manual cancellation.

Click the “Edit Account” button on the top right corner of the page and navigate to the “Subscriptions” tab on the left. From here you can check your subscription status. If your subscription has been cancelled, you will need to resubscribe here.

Q: I am a subscriber, but I keep having to log in every time I want to read an article.

For security purposes we can only keep accounts logged in for 2 weeks at a time; every 14 days your account will be automatically signed and you will have to sign back in using the “LOGIN” button in the top right corner.

There are a number of possible reasons for this issue, but the most common cause involves the “cookies” setting on your web browser. Our website relies on cookies to remember your account while you are browsing the site. Before checking your cookies settings, first make sure you have a working subscription by checking your inbox for a confirmation email. Next, make sure you have the “remember me” box checked when you log in.

To check your cookies, please visit this link. Make sure you have JavaScript, Cookies, and Third-Party Cookies enabled. If any of these are disabled, please follow the “How to Enable” instructions on the right side of the page.

If you have followed all these steps and continue to run into problems, please contact us and include the name of the web browser you are using to access our site.

Q: Why do I continue seeing ads on your website even after I subscribed?

Our basic Digital subscription plan allows unlimited access to our articles, but it does include advertisements. If you would prefer an ad-free experience please upgrade to our Patriot plan. More info on subscriptions can be found here.

If you have a Digital+ or Patriot plan and continue to see ads, please make sure you are logged in while reading articles.

Q: How do I change my payment information, address, or password, or cancel my subscription?

Once you are logged in, simply click the “Edit Account” button in the top right corner of the page. Using the tabs on the left side of the account page, you can change all of your account information.

For payment changes or cancellations, click the “Subscriptions” tab, then click the green “Actions” button. This will open a menu from which you can choose to change your card information or cancel your subscription.

Q: The login form and/or subscription form is not working properly (i.e., email address duplicated in password field or password reset button not working).

The most common reason for unexpected behavior on these pages is using an outdated web browser. Like most websites today, spectator.org  does not support Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge; as a result, we cannot guarantee all of our features will work properly when accessed with these browsers.

Supported web browsers include Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera — make sure to regularly update your browser to ensure best performance.

Q: Is The American Spectator still in print?

Although The American Spectator lives online for the most part, our Patriot and Foundation subscribers will receive special print magazines with exclusive content in the mail. Make sure your account’s address information is correct in order to receive print editions!
