Cain Moves to Plan B
by

I watched Herman Cain’s speech announcing the suspension of his presidential campaign filled with a mixture of sadness, anger and good cheer.

I am sad because it was plain to see that he made a decision he did not want to make.

I am angered because people who wanted Herman Cain out of the way got what they wanted. I am also angered because I do not believe these accusations would have seen the light of day had he not won the Florida Straw Poll. People who spread rumor, innuendo and outright lies have been rewarded for their behavior. The truth no longer matters. Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and other GOP candidates can expect far worse if they are in any position to unseat President Obama.

But I also feel good cheer because Herman Cain holds his head up high as he picks up himself off the ground. Life goes on. There is a Plan B. Cain will continue to promote 9-9-9 and other innovative public policy solutions. He also plans to endorse a GOP candidate. If I had to bet I am inclined to think he would endorse Newt Gingrich. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets back into talk radio or gets a TV show in the not to distant future. There’s nothing wrong with getting knocked down just as long as you get back up.

It’s no secret I supported Herman Cain’s candidacy. I liked his positive disposition and willingness to go out on a limb for his beliefs. Yes, he had his limitations (especially where it concerned foreign policy.) But what candidate is without limitations? If Cain wasn’t going to win the GOP nomination I would rather it have been because of public policy than because of private matters. But life isn’t fair, never has been and never will be.

Herman Cain was an ornament to the Republican Party presidential race and hope he will be successful in continuing to make a positive contribution to our political discourse.
