Broncos Beat The Pats (Or The Worst Performance in Denver Since Obama’s Debate)
by

The Denver Broncos decisively defeated the New England Patriots 26-16 to win the AFC championship. The Broncos will face either the San Francisco 49ers or the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII in a fortnight.

Broncos QB Peyton Manning seemed to be able to throw the ball at will. Manning completed 32 out of 43 passes for 400 yards. Seven of those passes were caught by wide receiver DeMaryius Thomas including a touchdown.

Manning uttered the word Omaha so often that a) the Omaha Chamber of Commerce should present him with a citation or b) he should do a commercial for Mutual of Omaha.

As for the Patriots, there would be no 24-point comeback this time. The Pats had the worse performance in Denver since Obama’s first debate against Mitt Romney. Their defense was non-existent and the offense did not show any signs of life until the fourth quarter and by then it was too little, too late. Pats QB Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass to Julian Edelman and rushed for a second touchdown, but failed to make a two point conversion.

It is worth noting that the Patriots only arrived in Denver on Friday. Normally, a trip out west would take place a day earlier. It takes time to adapt to the Mile High air. I can’t help but wonder if the game would have been closer had the Pats flown to Denver earlier in the week.

I don’t think it matters who wins the 49ers-Seahawks matchup. The Broncos defense is just too strong and Peyton Manning is just too good.

UPDATE: The Broncos will be facing the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks beat the 49ers 23-17 despite the fact that 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick rushed for 130 yards. I didn’t watch the entire game having flipped it to Downton Abbey. But I did see Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman trash 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree to a shocked Erin Andrews. Talk about a sore winner.

While it would be nice to see Seattle win a championship if Sherman is representative of the Seahawks demeanor I’d rather see the Broncos prevail.

As has been noted, with the legalization of marijuana in both Colorado and Washington, the Broncos-Seahawks match up could be called the Bud Bowl.
