Not since 1932, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s first 100 days as president set a benchmark for presidential performance, has any president done so much so quickly as Joe Biden. In fact, Biden is surpassing Roosevelt significantly in imposing massive damaging changes on America that may not be reversible.

Unlike Roosevelt, Biden isn’t only relying on Congress to pass legislation. Biden is achieving his goals by making international agreements, imposing executive orders and policy decisions, and working hard to undo everything his predecessor did.

Biden will brag about his accomplishments later this week in a speech to a joint session of Congress. We can expect to hear about his rejoining the Paris Climate Accord and his promise last week to cut U.S. carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030. We’ll hear about his “successes” in dealing with Russia and China, about fighting America’s “systemic racism,” and “his” successes in fighting COVID. He’ll brag about bringing our troops home from Afghanistan.

If we analyze what these “successes” mean to us, our national security, and our economy, it’s quite clear that Biden defines success in terms of his ability to diminish our economy and national security.

Biden’s open borders policy has created an enormous crisis at our southern border. Thousands of illegal aliens are coming into the U.S. every day. The Customs and Border Police agency, as of mid-March, had already caught over 170,000. (An equal or greater number probably aren’t being caught.) They are being released into the U.S., and many are being bused to communities as far away as Idaho, dropped off, and left for the locals to provide food, shelter, and some sort of future for them at the communities’ expense.

Biden is promising a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. There are roughly 15 to 20 million of them already here, not the 11 million figure the media uses. Biden is talking about giving subsidies to people in nations such as Guatemala to give them an incentive to stay at home rather than come into the United States. Those subsidies will only serve to subsidize the “coyotes” who smuggle people into the United States.

Children who cross the border illegally are reportedly being given “welcome packages” that include Kamala Harris’s children’s book, Superheroes are Everywhere, which the government must be buying from the publisher. That’s one entirely corrupt way to get a book on the New York Times’ bestsellers list.

As history proves, we don’t have the will to deport the illegal aliens back to their nations of origin. Those who manage to get here will stay, and, if Biden’s plans go forward, they will become voting citizens.

Biden appeared at the Tuesday summit of some 40 nations’ leaders. He was the only one who was wearing an anti-COVID mask and the only one who didn’t have his nation’s flag next to him. He promised to reduce U.S. carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030. It that is accomplished, it will wreak havoc on our economy.

The U.S. economy is fed by a fast-increasing energy supply that has to meet the equally increasing demand that powers homes and industries and keeps cars and trucks on the road and aircraft in the air. Unless the energy supply continues to grow by at least the margins it has in recent years, the economy will shrink dramatically.

For the last decade, the energy supply from both natural gas and carbon-based fuel has grown by more than 10 percent while the energy produced from coal has dropped by that amount. To reduce carbon emissions by 50 percent will require an increase in energy production from other sources by far more than 50 percent.

Biden wants to replace carbon-generated energy with wind and solar power, the so-called “renewable energy” that proved unreliable in Texas this February. To increase solar and wind power by that margin will require tens of trillions of dollars’ expenditures and will require rebuilding the U.S. power grid, which will cost at least that much in addition. (Imagine how the power grid, which is barely adequate now, will support plugging in tens of millions of cars and trucks every day.)

According to the Wall Street Journal and the National Resources Defense Council, the U.S. will have to double its carbon-free energy generation to 80 percent from 40 percent and rebuild the power grid in 10 years. Half of the 40 percent of carbon-free energy is now supplied by nuclear power plants, of which Biden will block new construction.

In sum, Biden’s promise to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin can’t be accomplished without economy-strangling government controls, subsidies, and forcing changes on people and industries.

Biden’s promise, like so much else he is doing, is being done without legislation — or treaty ratification by the Senate — and without so much as a whimper from congressional Republicans. There is no strong Republican or conservative leader to oppose him because such a person doesn’t exist. Moreover, Biden’s promise to cut U.S. emissions won’t have any effect on international carbon emissions. China, Russia, and India can safely ignore the 2015 Paris Accord as they have done since it was signed.

Biden’s promise to cut U.S. carbon emissions by 50 percent in 10 years will have a massive effect on our national security because the people and systems that provide it require a massive amount of energy to operate, and, like the civilian economy, that demand increases every year. His promise is another example of Biden’s foreign and domestic policies which, as I have written, consistently gives up an American advantage without getting anything in return. The same is true for his other foreign policy decisions, which are characterized by his weakness in dealing with other nations.

Biden gave Russia a five-year extension to the “New START” agreement on Russia’s terms without requiring any concessions on missiles, nuclear weapons, or Russia’s new hypersonic weapons. He could have, for example, demanded that the Russian hypersonic weapons be included in the “New START” agreement, but he didn’t.

Another dangerous example of Biden’s “give something/get nothing” policy is his preemptive concession to Iran on the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action” (JCPOA), which former President Obama made with Iran in 2015. Biden is so intent on rejoining that deal that his negotiators have offered to reduce U.S. economic sanctions to a degree that Iran will resume its alleged compliance with the deal.

President Trump’s “maximum pressure” sanctions against Iran have reduced its economy to shambles. Iran’s violations of the JCPOA are legion. It has announced that it is enriching uranium to 60 percent, shy of the 90 percent needed to fuel nuclear weapons. But the JCPOA has no inspection regime sufficient to penetrate what Iran is doing. Biden is nevertheless giving something for nothing to a nation that cannot be trusted.

Biden’s weakness on Russia is equally astounding. Not only did he renew the “New START” treaty on Russian terms and failed to prevent construction of the new Nordstream 2 gas pipeline, which will make much of Europe dependent on Russian gas supplies, but he has failed to speak out against Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Biden could have, but didn’t, sanction the German and other companies that are building the Nordstream 2 pipeline. Such sanctions would have brought the construction to a halt. He apparently sees no danger in making Europe dependent on Russian energy.

On Ukraine, Biden has been even worse. He has said he doesn’t want “a cycle of escalation and conflict with Russia,” so whenever there’s an issue, he just backs down. He has assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that we stand fast for Ukrainian sovereignty, but his actions don’t match his words. When Russian air and ground forces were massing to threaten Ukraine, Biden first ordered and then canceled a U.S. Navy “freedom of navigation” exercise in the Black Sea.

In an interview last week, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told me that when he discussed increased U.S. military aid to Ukraine with then-President Trump, possibly to include Patriot missile batteries, he received a positive response. Trump had already sent Ukraine the Javelin anti-tank missiles it had been begging for. There is no discussion with Biden on increased military assistance to Ukraine.

One of the cornerstones of Biden’s policy is the revival of what the late Jeanne Kirkpatrick said was the liberals’ “blame America first” idea. Biden’s UN ambassador, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that “white supremacy” was built into our founding documents. She apparently included the Declaration of Independence, which, for her information, says that all men are created equal.

By labeling every statement and action they disagree with “racist,” Biden and his team are dividing Americans in a way of which Obama would have been proud. When Biden and Harris appeared to comment on the Derek Chauvin verdict, they said America had a “long history of systemic racism” that was a “stain on the nation’s soul.”

There is no systemic racism in America today. To say otherwise is to calumniate all of us. It’s false, and most Americans are fed up with hearing it. There should an outcry against that statement from every elected conservative and Republican, but they are apparently deaf to it.

Biden’s policies — from the border crisis he created to his consistent weakness in dealing with other nations — is a stain on our future. The odds are against our recovering from the damage his policies are creating.

Last Thursday — “Earth Day” to the tree-huggers – environmental activists delivered cow manure at the White House in protest of the supposed mildness of Biden’s environmental policies. Considering what is flowing from the White House every day, that was nothing more than a “coals to Newcastle” gesture.
