“Angry” Romney?
by

Well, a prominent ally of the Obama campaign did say they were going to “kill” Mitt Romney.

Exhibit A: Mitt Romney is an Angry, White Male.

Or at least that’s what Mediaite says. Their headline reads, “‘Angry’ Mitt Romney ‘Loses His Cool’ With Voter at New Hampshire Town Hall”. On Wednesday, Romney got into an exchange with a woman who was opposed to a balanced budget amendment. But if you actually watch the video Romney doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary. I’ll allow that Romney was annoyed with her. But that’s a long way from being angry.

But put yourself into Romney’s position. Wouldn’t you be annoyed if someone asks you a question and he or she interrupts as you are trying give them an answer. It’s called question & answer for a reason. Audience members ask questions and Romney answers them. He might not give the answer they want to hear but if that is the case then they are free to vote for President Obama. Speaking of Obama, Mediaite columnist Tommy Christopher observes:

Even if you allow that the woman might have been aggressively interupting Romney, his performance is still a stark contrast from the way President Obama handled a pair of Tea Party members aggressively questioned, and interrupted him over Vice President Biden’s comments on the debt ceiling negotiations. Whether or not you liked his responses, the President engaged them calmly and extensively, even as he shook hands with others in the crowd.

But what Christopher does not mention is that Obama’s confrontation with the Tea Partiers was a continuation of what occurred at the conclusion of a town hall meeting in Decorah, Iowa earlier this month. Iowa Tea Party activist Ryan Rhodes tried to ask how this country can come together if Biden is calling Tea Partiers terrorists. While answering another person’s question Obama replied:

Now, in fairness, since I’ve been called a socialist who wasn’t born in this country, who is destroying America and taking away its freedoms because I passed a health care bill, I’m all for lowering the rhetoric.

So Obama equates being called a socialist with Biden calling Tea Partiers terrorists? Calling Obama a socialist isn’t a pejorative. It is an accurate description of his political views. If Obama lived in Canada or in Britain, he would fit in quite well with the NDP or the Labour Party. Or for that matter the Democratic Socialists of America. Make no mistake. Obama was just as annoyed (though not angry) with the Tea Partiers as Romney was with the woman in New Hampshire. Indeed, Obama curtly told Rhodes, “It doesn’t sound like you’re interested in listening.”

As for Romney, he was no angrier in New Hampshire than he was in Iowa earlier this month. Indeed, Romney gave the heckler the space to ask his question about Social Security & Medicare.

Now I have plenty of reservations about Romney. But angry? Romney is about as angry as Mr. Rogers. If the liberal media wants to know what angry is then see what happens when George Brett has a homerun taken away from him.
