Thomas Mulcair, Deputy Leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP), said in an interview yesterday that he doubted the existence of the bin Laden death photos.
“I don’t think, from what I’ve heard, that those pictures exist and if they do I’ll leave that up to the American military,” said the number two man of Canada’s newly minted official opposition.
This put the NDP in damage control mode. Paul Dewar, the party’s foreign affairs critic, said in a written statement, “We have no reason to doubt the veracity of President Obama’s statement.”
If Mulcair “hears” that the bin Laden photos don’t exist then to whom exactly is he listening?
I think it’s going to be a long four years for the NDP.
UPDATE: Mulcair did the old my remarks were taken out of context, I could have chosen my words more carefully routine in a radio interview this morning. He attributes his lack of clarity “to a certain fatigue and our joy at our victory the other night.”
Does this mean Mulcair will make himself unavailable for comment if he hasn’t had a full night of sleep?
