The Neocoms and the Souls  of Our Children
by

I’m talking about Neocommunists, of course. It’s the name that, in a recent article, I proposed to give to the former neocons who’ll now vote for Hillary Clinton, or whomever the Democrat nominee might be. Even Bernie Sanders, the man who brought his wife Jane to honeymoon in the Soviet Union in 1988.

The Neocoms tell us they are fighting for the soul of our country. But the Democrats are more specific. They are fighting for the souls of our children.

Hillary Clinton was the first to reveal the Democratic agenda twenty years ago with her book, It Takes a Village. Her publisher, Simon & Schuster, recently issued a special anniversary edition, describing it as a chronicle of “her quest — both deeply personal and, in the truest sense, public — to help make our society into the kind of village that enables children to become smart, able, resilient adults.” Previously, we had thought that it took a family to do this. We were too narrow and selfish in our thinking, it appears.

More recently, Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry, the former MSNBC host who is Maya Angelou Presidential Chair Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest, expanded on the idea that we need a more “collective notion” of child rearing. “So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.” To this end, the Obama administration has been pushing for “cradle to career education.” The only problem is that, given how little is really taught, it’s better called brainwashing, not education.

Parents have never been more sidelined. Governmental regulations dictate what our children may eat for lunch. If you prepare a healthy lunch for your kid to take to school, the teacher might rip it out of his hands and throw it in the wastebasket. In this way, children are taught early on that their parents don’t know what is good for them. Only the government knows.

In his trilogy, The Seekers, Daniel Boorstin, a liberal scholar, celebrated Western Civilization and its view of education as an on-going process of seeking the truth. But that’s no longer true of our schools. By the time our children get to college they’ve been taught what to think about everything, including religion, climate change, capitalism, human nature and social interaction. Nothing is left to chance or to parental influence. Children are no longer seen as seekers, but as passive receptacles for left-wing dogmas. Stripped of the ability to make choices, our children have not been allowed to become moral agents.

When we see them behaving as perfect little Fascists in college, shouting down anyone who disagrees with them, we shouldn’t be surprised. That’s how education works, they’ve been taught.

Our children have been taught to hate America and to see themselves as citizens of the world. They no longer have a national identity. But even more devastating has been the damage to their sexual identity. The ideal of a man and a woman in the Garden of Eden — or on top of a wedding cake — on which Western Civilization has been built has been attacked and insulted. And Hillary Clinton is fully on board with this. At a recent LGBT event a leather-clad Hillary leered at her audience. “Don’t you love my jacket?” she asked, suggestively. “I thought really hard about what I’d wear tonight.”

In Fairfax County, VA, the school board proposes to teach children in grades 7 through12 that “gender is fluid and on a spectrum.” Your child may leave for school one morning as “Don” and return as “Dawn.” Schools are providing “gender neutral” restrooms, but will this be enough to accommodate the latest “preference” to emerge: men and women who role play as puppies and kittens respectively. The Daily Mail describes “pet play” as a “craze that is sweeping the nation,” so perhaps fire hydrants and kitty litter boxes will soon be mandated in the gender-neutral rest rooms.

How can this possibly get worse under a Hillary administration? Let’s look at Europe, always in the vanguard of progressive thinking.

Laura McInerney is a former London schoolteacher, now editor of “School Week.” She has a huge problem with gender-identifying school uniforms which might, for example, require girls to wear skirts and boys to wear pants. Sexual distinctions are “arbitrary” and school uniforms should “unify students, instead of dividing them.” Like all people of a totalitarian bent, Ms. McInerney recognizes the need to get to children early, before they acquire “the biases of grown-ups. [While] [t]hey are brilliantly flexible.” Schools must expect to exercise muscle to correct them, “even if that means facing a [parental] headwind of complaints and discomfort. It will be worth it in the end.”

None of this seems to worry the Neocoms, who have shown themselves every bit as intolerant of dissent as their new allies on the left.

It’s not enough that Trump lose, they tell us. His supporters must lose too. They must be banished from polite society, sent to Coventry. Like the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin, the Neocoms cast themselves in the role of our Mikhail Suslovs, the commissars of ideological purity. They get upset when we call them the establishment, but if they aren’t the establishment how do they get the right to anathematize “left deviationists“ such as Marco Rubio for moving to the Trump camp?

They’re going to feel right at home with Hillary.
