President Obama has invited Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to a White House State Dinner which will take place on March 10, 2016.
It would mark the first time that a Canadian PM has been the guest of a White House State Dinner in nearly 20 years. In 1997, Bill Clinton hosted another Liberal Prime Minister, Jean Chretien.
Like Clinton and Chretien, Obama and Trudeau are ideological soulmates. Given that George W. Bush and Stephen Harper were also ideological soulmates I wonder why Bush never saw fit to fete Harper.
Trudeau has been getting fawning treatment by the Canadian media since the Liberals came to power last October. You could say he’s been getting the Obama treatment. The Canadian media will no doubt give Obama the Trudeau treatment when dinner is served. It’s enough to make one lose one’s appetite.
