Stevie Wright, the British born lead singer of the Australian rock group The Easybeats, passed away suddenly at the age of 68.
The Easybeats were the most popular rock group in Australia during the 1960’s. They had one North American hit called “Friday On My Mind” which has become a rock ‘n roll standard. You can listen to the song by clicking on the video above.
Wright had a number one solo hit in Australia in 1974 with a song called “Evie”. This song was notable because it was 11 minutes in length and featured AC/DC’s Malcolm Young on guitar (who was the younger brother of former Easybeat George Young).
Like many rock performers, Wright battled drug addiction.
A public memorial is planned in Australia for Wright.
