It didn’t look good in the beginning. The Sox were trailing 6-1 in the fifth inning. Clay Buchholz gave up those six runs over three innings. However, the Sox rallied in the fifth and tied the game on a three-run HR by David Ortiz. Big Papi also drove in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the 7th while A.J. Pierzynski added some insurance with a single.
Still, the Red Sox have dug themselves quite a hole. On May 14th, they were half a game out of first in the AL East. As of this writing, they are 7 1/2 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays who have won six consecutive games and 9 of their last 10 games. Three of those wins came at the expense of the Red Sox.
