Secretary of State John Kerry will meet with Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Javad Zarif on Thursday as part of six nations talks on Iran’s nuclear program at the UN.
It will represent the highest level direct talks between American and Iranian officials since the 1979 hostage crisis at the American Embassy in Tehran – for now.
President Obama and Iranian President Hasan Rouhani might not meet this week in New York, but they will meet soon. It is only a matter of time.
I would venture to guess it will happen within the next six months. In just under six months, the Iranian holiday of Nowruz will take place. In past years, President Obama has sent Nowruz greetings to Iran. Next year, he might do so in person – perhaps in Tehran.
