Obama on Syria: I Didn’t Set a Red Line; It’s Not My Credibility on the Line

On Thursday, I will have a new article up on Syria.

However, this article does not take into account the comments President Obama made on Wednesday during a press conference in Sweden regarding possible military action in Syria. Obama said, “I didn’t set a red line – the world did.”

And the world is just rushing to fight along our side in Syria.

Elaborating on this point, Obama added, “My credibility is not on the line, the international community’s credibility is on the line. America and Congress’ credibility is on the line.”

So according to President Obama the only person in the world whose credibility isn’t on the line when it comes to Syria is….President Obama.

But as Daniel Halper of The Weekly Standard demonstrates the red line was not set by the international community, Congress or any American except for Barack Obama.

The fact that Obama is already absolving himself over Syria and blaming the world for this mess of his own making should come as no surprise to anyone. Congress should wash its hands of President Obama and vote against authorizing a mission for which he is not prepared to take responsibility.

ADDENDUM: I just came across Pete Wehner’s piece in Commentary from yesterday afternoon and I am in simpatico with him where it comes to Obama claiming his credibility isn’t on the line. Wehner writes, “So literally everyone else in the world is to blame except the president.”
