Canadian Authorities Thwart Terrorist Attack in B.C.

The RCMP have arrested a couple from Surrey, British Columbia for plotting to plant pressure cooker bombers during Canada Day celebrations on the grounds of the B.C. Legislature in Victoria.

Amanda Marie Korody and John Stuart Nuttall are converts to Islam. They don’t appear to be part of an al Qaeda cell, but apparently the bombs they built were in accordance with a recipe set out in an al Qaeda online magazine.

On a personal note, I lived in Victoria for a year when my Dad was on sabbatical. Our home was half a block from the provincial legislature. Had this plot been carried out the casualties could have been substantial. Kudos to the RCMP and CSIS for preventing this attack.
