Actress Bonnie Franklin passed away today of complications of pancreatic cancer at the age of 69. She was diagnosed with the disease last September.

Franklin was best known for starring in the CBS sitcom One Day at a Time from 1975 to 1984 which also featured MacKenzie Phillips, Valerie Bertinelli and Pat Harrington as Schneider. I used to watch it after school many, many years ago. It’s probably been thirty years since I last saw the show. The only thing I remember about it is the theme song “This Is It” (written by Jeff Barry) and Schneider’s tool belt.

Prior to One Day at a Time, Franklin was primarily a Broadway actress. She would return to the stage after she left One Day at a Time and dabbled in directing. One of her last TV appearances came in 2011 when she reunited with Bertinelli on her series Hot in Cleveland.

I had no idea she could tap dance.
