As I predicted last week, the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl XLVII in a fortnight.

The 49ers came back from a 17-0 deficit to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 28-24 in the NFC Final. You might recall that the Falcons nearly blew a 20-0 lead against the Seattle Seahawks last week. The Falcons tempted fate once again and this time came out on the short end.

This marks the first time the 49ers have been in the Super Bowl since 1995. I remember Super Bowl XXIX because I watched it in London. I went to bed by the middle of the 3rd quarter when it became clear the 49ers were going to blow out the Chargers. Besides it was 2:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, Ray Lewis lives to fight one more day. The Ravens beat the New England Patriots 28-13. The Pats had a 13-7 lead at the half but the Ravens scored touchdowns on three consecutive possessions in the 3rd and 4th quarters. The Ravens were simply hungrier than the Pats. In fact, you could say Baltimore was downright ravenous.

This means that the Harbaugh brothers will be coaching against each other in New Orleans. John Harbaugh has coached the Ravens for five seasons while younger brother Jim (a one-time quarterback who briefly played with the Ravens) is in his second season as head coach of the 49ers.
