Ogonowski to Challenge John Kerry
by

Jim Ogonowski, the Republican who ran a surprisingly close race in Massachusetts’ Fifth Congressional District last year, has announced that he will take on Sen. John Kerry. Six years ago, the state GOP failed to field a challenger for Kerry.

It’s a real longshot. The Fifth District is more open to Republicans than Massachusetts as a whole, and Ogonowski didn’t win there. No GOP presidential candidate is likely to carry the Bay State — not even former Gov. Mitt Romney. But all of Kerry’s Republican challengers have broken 40 percent against him. A Libertarian took 19 percent of the vote running against him in 2002. It could be a race worth watching.
