CHARLESTON, SC — This was certainly John McCain’s night. When I traveled to the victory party at the Citadel, it was striking how happy the McCainiacs were. And he grinned in a way I haven’t seen him grin since 2000. He gave his nonagenarian mother a kiss and celebrated his victory.
McCain once again won independents, but he did better among veterans, evangelicals, veterans, and senior citizens than he did when he lost to George W. Bush. Thus he won.
