Another point to consider is whether, after Dick Cheney, voters will want a vice president to have such a large role in the administration. Of course, it is possible that Cheney has forever changed the vice presidency like other influential vice presidents before him. It seems to me any scenario along the lines of Thompson-Romney assumes that the vice president won’t just be attending funerals. As George H.W. Bush used to put it, “You die, I fly.”
