Actress and singer Annette Funicello passed away yesterday after a lengthy battle with MS. She was 70.
Funicello became a TV pioneer as a teenager when she was personally selected by Walt Disney to be a charter member of the Mickey Mouse Club.
But Funicello is perhaps best known for her series of Beach Blanket movies in the early to mid-1960s with singer Frankie Avalon.
Funicello and Avalon enjoyed a brief resurgence in the late 1980s and early 1990s when they reunited for Back to the Beach and a subsequent tour. However, it was during this time that Funicello was diagnosed with MS. However, she kept her condition a secret until 1992.
Soon after, Funicello faded from the public limelight.
Personally, when I think of Funicello I think the series of commercials she did for Skippy Peanut Butter.
