President Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe is, by many accounts, a talented political strategist.
But that didn't stop the fast-talking political street fighter with the demeanor of a discount shoe salesman from making what has to be one of the most breathtakingly stupid statements in American politics that I can remember.
In an online strategy session conducted by the lefty astroturfing outfit Organizing for America Plouffe said:
Obviously there's a big debate right now in Washington around financial reform to make sure that we're putting the American people and consumers first, not the big banks on Wall Street and to make sure that all of us, this is a global recession that's affected people deeply in this country and around the world, never happens again and I know so many of you are out there fighting on this issue now and hopefully very soon we will be able to report to the American people that we passed meaningful financial reform. [emphasis added]
So now the Obama administration is going to abolish recessions? Obama is going to abolish the business cycle? Even Communist countries never quite managed to do that.
Organizing for America, by the way, is a phony grassroots campaign organization run by the Democratic National Committee that proposes to replicate the community organizing techniques Barack Obama learned from the teachings of his fellow Chicagoan, Saul Alinsky.
