Who’s to blame for the rise of Donald Trump?
Cruz? Come on. This is the most specious argument.
Donald Trump’s lying lips and the media that’s his megaphone? Good candidates, for sure.
Andrew Sullivan blames Democracy and the rubes for not loving the elites enough. A couple good points.
Jim Geraghty rightly counters.
How about a all of the above? David French talks about the small acts of cowardice that define our culture and he’s right. Most of us keep hoping that the selfish, insane, unbalanced, and most churlish voices will get what they want, tire themselves out, and then go away. But they’re not going away. Barack Obama did not go away. He just pushed his nasty agenda through while labeling all opposition as racist cowards who hated “change we can believe in.” Trump reduces every ideological opponent to a noxious name. In our personal lives, Americans are so tired and busy and overwhelmed, the last thing they want to do is fight the school system or business or local government and risk harming their child’s future or their own income to stop some pissed off bureaucratic busy body.

Let the recriminations rain. What a miserable primary season.
