Dear Patriot,

Please join me this coming winter aboard the small American cruise ship Yorktown for a seven-night voyage designed to immerse us in the natural wonders of Belize and to introduce us to the ancient civilization of the Maya. Some of our days will be spent sailing the Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world, and exploring the extraordinarily rich rain forests of the mainland that earn Belize the title ‘Eden of the New World’. Other days will be devoted to discovering the remains of Maya culture that lie deep within the jungles of Belize and neighboring Guatemala.

In the evenings, we will settle into the comfort of Yorktown's lounge to revisit the highlights of the day and to engage in discussion with a distinguished group of authors and journalists on the issues they see as most important in the wake of the 2012 elections. As of this writing, Grover Norquist, John Fund, George Gilder, and Jay Nordlinger have agreed to participate in a series of panels, which I will moderate. Our precise topics will depend of course on who will have been inaugurated President the week before and on the make-up of the 113th Congress, but we will certainly focus on issues critical to the prospects of our children and grandchildren. The limited size and relaxed, congenial atmosphere of Yorktown mean you will have the opportunity to mix and mingle freely with our panelists, joining them for meals or informal conversation on deck.

To help us understand the natural history of the region and to insure that we learn something of the achievements of the Maya, we will be accompanied by an impressive array of expedition leaders, scientists, and naturalists, and by Sandra Noble, executive Director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies. In briefings, lectures, and daily recaps, they will share knowledge and expertise gained from decades of studying and fieldwork.

I hope you are able to join my colleagues and me for what promises to be a splendid week of relaxation and exploration—as well as serious engagement with serious issues—aboard the American-flagged, all- American staffed, Yorktown on this voyage to ancient sites, rain forests, and coral reefs. It promises to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Sincerely,
