As the executive branch continues to grow and issue orders that sound more like edicts, bypassing Congress in the process, many on the right are growing frustrated. Some have compared President Obama to a dictator. As the frustration increased, so did rumors of the threat of impeachment, stirred by emails from the DCCC and the White House to potential donors. Today Speaker John Boehner quashed that talk.
According to the Washington Times:
“We have no plans to impeach the president. We have no future plans,” Mr. Boehner said. “Listen, it’s all a scam started by Democrats at the White House.”
These are the same Democrats who pushed the “birther” conspiracies, which some on the right still ridiculously hang onto. The Democrats have been using their own talk of impeachment to further their fundraising goals:
Democrats have acknowledged impeachment talk has been good for their fundraising, but also say there’s some fire behind all the smoke. On Tuesday, congressional Democrats circulated a list of GOP candidates and sitting lawmakers who have said they want to see President Obama be impeached.
The frustration has shifted from lawmakers to certain quarters of the conservative blogosphere and media:
Some conservative commenters have said impeachment is the right step, given the way Mr. Obama has chosen to enforce or not enforce laws written by Congress.
Yes, because nothing says stability and security like impeaching Obama and putting crazy Uncle Joe Biden in charge.
Luckily sanity prevailed and a huge fundraising issue for the Democrats was squashed today.
